Terms of Use

1. What this is

Threefold Dictum is a platform for publishing writing. The articles and comments on it are written by its members, not by us. We host and display what they submit; we do not adopt it, endorse it, or claim it as our own.

By using this site you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you do not agree to them, do not use the site.

2. Your account

You sign in with a Google account or with a single-use link sent to your email address. There are no passwords. You are responsible for the security of whichever email account or Google account you sign in with — anyone with access to it can reach your account here.

You must be at least 16 years old to hold an account. One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone, and do not present yourself as connected to a person or organisation you are not.

3. Your writing stays yours

You keep ownership of everything you post. We claim no ownership of your articles or comments.

So that we can actually run the site, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, display and distribute what you submit, for the purpose of operating and promoting Threefold Dictum. That licence exists only to let us show your writing to readers, include it in the site's feed, and quote it when linking to it. It ends when you delete the content, except for copies already made by others and for backups that expire in the ordinary course.

4. You are responsible for what you post

Responsibility for anything you publish here rests entirely with you.By submitting it you confirm that:

• it is your own work, or you have the right to publish it;
• anything you did not write is properly sourced and attributed — quoted no further than is fair, credited to its author, and linked to the original where one exists;
• it does not infringe anyone's copyright, trade mark, privacy, or other rights;
• it is not unlawful where you are, and not defamatory.

Passing off someone else's writing as your own is the one thing most likely to get an account removed without discussion. This is a site about saying what you actually think; borrowed writing defeats the point of it.

5. Copyright complaints

If you believe something published here infringes your copyright, tell us and we will act on it.Write to threefolddictum@gmail.com with:

• a link to the page containing the material;
• a description of the work you say it infringes, and where your original appears;
• your name and contact details;
• a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by you, the copyright owner, or the law, and that the information you have given is accurate.

We will review complaints promptly and remove or restrict access to material that appears to infringe. We will tell the person who posted it, so that they can respond if they believe the complaint is mistaken. We may remove material while a complaint is being considered. Accounts that repeatedly infringe will be closed.

Please do not send complaints that are really disagreements. Copyright is about who owns a piece of writing, not about whether it is right.

6. Moderation

Submissions are read before they appear. We moderate how something is written, not what it argues. Nothing is turned away for the position it takes; what is asked is that a piece was written with care — that it is finished, legible, and meant.

We will remove, decline or restrict content that:

• is unlawful, or incites or facilitates something unlawful;
• harasses, threatens, or targets a person or group;
• is spam, advertising, or posted to manipulate rather than to say something;
• discloses someone's private information without their consent;
• contains malware, or attempts to attack or disrupt the site.

Editing a published article returns it to the review queue and takes it off the site until it is approved again. That is deliberate.

7. Closing your account

You can ask us to close your account and delete your content at any time by writing tothreefolddictum@gmail.com. See theprivacy policy for what happens to your data.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where it is reasonable to do so we will say why first.

8. The site is provided as it is

Threefold Dictum is offered without warranty. It may be unavailable, lose data, or change. We do not promise that anything published here is accurate — it is written by members, and the whole point is that they disagree with each other.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data or profit, or for what one member's writing does to another. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud — and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

9. Changes

These terms may change as the site does. The date at the top says when they last did. Substantive changes will be announced on the site; continuing to use it afterwards means you accept them.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the country in which the site's operator is resident, and disputes are subject to the courts there. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
